After trying various approaches since 1970s, I have finally settled on the balanced-core-and-explore approach. Balanced-core includes allocation/balanced/hybrid funds, multi-asset funds and multisector bond funds. Explore includes options, stocks, stock funds, sector funds; funds mean mutual funds [OEFs], ETFs, CEFs. My tactical asset allocation target in retirement is 40-60% equity; I use effective-equity based on relative portfolio SD vs SP500. A pension provides monthly income so that there is no need yet to draw from tax-deferred/free accounts. I also have a donor-advised Schwab Charitable Fund [DAF] account that acts like my family's own private foundation. I am a fast reader and love numbers. I am a Professor Emeritus [Retired], Mechanical Engineering, from a Midwestern university. My M* postings include contributing original content, being sort of informal help desk, and engaging in discussions.
