Every quote service and broker has a different convention for tickers of preferred stocks. I am able to find the symbols (Quantum Online is helpful), but it's a hassle. Why have brokers and quote services never standardized preferred stock ticker symbols? Imagine what a hassle stock trading would be if the symbols varied across brokers.
I noticed this when I was looking at and bought some individual preferreds, and the brokerage designation was different than the M* one. It would seem like the stock exchange that it trades on would set the designation and others would copy. It doesn’t make sense -- this would probably be a good student project -- maybe some smart students could recommend a fix for this.
Guess nobody cares; there is no watchdog and no one is going to make them do it. Lets just say, change is not always possible unless it is mandatory. It would be nice, and make things easier for investors, but after all these years, doesnt look like it will ever get done.
