As you likely know, Morningstar recently revised the methodology used to derive the Analyst Rating for funds. Because this change is being rolled out over the next year, users will see different values for the same data points depending on whether a fund has been updated to reflect the new methodology.

This post shows users of both the web-based versions of Morningstar Direct and Morningstar Office Cloud how to find funds reflecting the new methodology, how to show the data points for the Morningstar Analyst Rating in a custom column set, and how to find additional information on the Morningstar Analyst Rating in the Morningstar Analyst Take component.

Additionally, on Thursday, November 14, you can watch a live stream of Jeff Ptak, Head of Manager Research at Morningstar, and Russ Kinnel, Director, Ratings, Manager Research, North America, where they will discuss the new Morningstar Analyst Rating methodology.

Create a Screen

To see only those funds updated to the new methodology, you need to screen for funds whose Analyst Rating Date is after October 31, 2019. Do the following:

  1. From the header, click the Create icon, then select Screen.

Build a Custom Column Set

To see the data points for the Analyst Rating, you will need a custom column set. Do the following:

  1. From the Column Set menu, select Create New.

Read the Morningstar Analyst Take

Note that the Price and Performance pillars are dashed out for funds already updated to the new Morningstar Analyst Rating. You can still read the impact of these two elements in the Morningstar Analyst Take. Do the following:

  1. Click a share class to open the Analytical View.
  2. Click the Analyst Research tab.
