Re: 2020 Challenge - Participants

Hi Fred, first Kudos to your latest trade of achieving sell at day's high and buy at day's low executions! Those tree trades you had reported were amazingly awesome! I wish I could achieve such trades. Congratulations!

I just noticed that unless your account is margin account, your last trade triggered "good faith violations".  KM

Re: 2020 Challenge - Participants

Thanks, MK. I have been more alert lately to the daily price swings of certain select funds and have tried to capitalize on them. And, to give credit where it is due, you have also been quite a good practitioner in the frequent trading department yourself.

Congratulations on your many amazing trades. Hope to continue learning more from you in the future.

Good luck,

Fred

Re: 2020 Challenge - Participants

22 February 2020

I had planned on retiring next month as I will turn 70 years old, but OH! how things can change in a hurry.  I will still  take my full SSA, but I think I will hold off on withdrawing my RMD’s from my SEP now that I’m allowed to.  I was planning on keeping my part time job as it provides “ walking around money” and after 50 some years I have a job I fully enjoy.  I build raised garden beds and maintain the gardens for retirement communities and for people retiring in their homes.  I am making some changes to my real portfolio and some of them are reflected here. Hope you and your families are well.

John

at Friday’s close prices I sold

all MGVAX @ $8.28 and bought

an additional 10,000 shares of FUMBX @ $10.85 and

20,000 new shares of FUAMX @$11.83.

cash (FDLXX) = $402,744.33

John, cograts on making it to 70. Are you still going ahead with the retirement.?

My real portfolio is all Money Market now. I'm leaving my challenge portfolio as is. Curious which will win by the end of the year. I will get back in the market eventually, but at this point it looks like a long time. I took a 20% hit with my real port for the year. Hard to swallow, but still a good amount left. Being aggressive this past 10 years has paid off. But I look at this virus being a big hit to the economy. Unemployment is going to skyrocket in my opinion. But I think I am fortunate. I have my money, SS, a pension and pension assistance with my healthcare. Vast numbers of Americans and people of the world do not have a fall back. And many underdeveloped countries have not be hit hard yet.

My wife and I have been hunkered down for a week. Pantry full. Probably a bit early as only 2 cases in our county. But that could change dramatically in a week or two. Everyone stay safe and wash your hands.

Re: 2020 Challenge - Participants

22 March 2020

RichinKansas,

My plan is to collect social security and continue the part time job.  My wife owns our house, and has a retirement income.  All our kids are all currently employed (I had to think about how to phrase that one, and it is still true) so I think I will save the IRA until I need it for a big expense.  The IRA is mostly in treasuries and money markets, I sold out of stocks at the end of February because, frankly, I was scared.  I remember 2008 well and this time I do not have the time to recoup.  So, we will see.  One of my favorite platitudes is “You want to make God laugh, make a plan”.

John

this is an edit, but that is an interesting use of the challenge, to see what might have been.   l am curious if others have differing directions for the contest.  I will continue to use it to discipline myself to keep records of potential buys.

Re: 2020 Challenge - Participants

OH! So, so grateful we sold our real-life 30% position in IOFIX and 30% position in ORNYX before the bottom dropped out! (my Challenge port is toast, but thankfully our real retirement port is only down 10% or so...After today, we'll be 100% cash, hunkered down keeping on eye on a solid re-entry point.

Be safe out there and best to us all,

DB

Ross,

I don't know what input you use for closing prices, but at least your QQQ closing price should be $190.40 instead of $188.27 you reported. Best, KM
