Looks like a lot of vanguard funds are showing strange numbers right now...probably somehow related to the trading system issue that was being reported. Near impossible it really dropped like that.
yeah, it better be a hiccup. vscgx down 48%, vwiax down 127% . I'll be watching this closely for a bit. I also have fidelity balanced and it was down less than 1%. Had to take a deep breath after checking account and freaking out for a minute.
My 50:50 portfolio was down 2.33% today. I felt my heart sink and got sick stomach feeling when I saw that. Due to tremendous (down 56%), hopefully erroneous drop in VWINX.
Must be the Russians. I'm down 25% in my VG portfolio. :-)
When a rep called me in a feedback survey, with respect to their moving into China, my reply was I hope your computers have a strong firewall.
Vanguard fund shareholders were chosen to help "patch" the federal deficit. Volunteers were needed. Thanks for your contribution.
Clearly this was an NAV error for all VGD funds pricing.
Star VGSTX is "only' down 25.01% per the Vanguard website.
What is distressing is that this whole process is so automated that the prices went through. Shouldn't there be some reasonableness filters? Nearly four hours after close, no one has at least added something to the website stating that the price is incorrect and will be corrected.
If that price is correct, excuse me while I have a heart attack.
Mutual fund price data is released/updated in several batches in the evening. So, it isn't good that VG response is that its target-date and balanced fund quotes will be fixed tomorrow. Its site is still showing bad data at 7:15 pm Central [8:15 pm Eastern] while many other sites have fixed it. There should be fines for such carelessness/sloppiness.
I was told by my rep once that Vanguard gets the data from another source - it is outsourced. I also see the price differences in my fund - only one fund VDIGX. Since I loaded it up last week and some even today, my portfolio is also down but not like 25-30% level because most of my investments are in VTI.
